CHESAPEAKE, VA (AP) Cub Scout Pack 320 only one year ago went through a horrific episode with their Cubmaster, Mr. Robert DiFernando at Northwest River Park located in the southern end of Chesapeake, Virginia. At that time he held hostage at least ten families against their will in the inundated camping area at the north end of the park. See archived article for full details. After a full weekend of unimaginable grief the crazed Pack 320 Leader, Mr. Robert DiFernando was committed to Petersburg State Hospital for an undisclosed period of time immediately after the local National Guard was able to free the families and take Mr. DiFernando into custody. |

An almost eerie repeat of the incident occurred this evening when the entire Pack 320 was attending their last Pack meeting for the season at their local church. The scouts were happy and the awards were ready to be passed out. The families were all set for a wonderful end of the year get together. Instead they were thrown back into harm's way! The now rehabilitated cubmaster sent a letter to his Pack with his regrets for being unable to attend their last Pack meeting because of a prior engagement. Police are now investigating whether there was really another commitment or whether Mr. DiFernando, or "Bobby" as he was so affectionately known by those who stood behind him in his prior incapacitation, had really tried to put his Pack back into another life and death situation. The Pack Leader has again been taken into custody for further interrogation. This reporter saw an incoherent man who kept muttering "...but its just like the Day after Tomorrow...really I use to work for the Weather Service...I know these things...I didn't mean for anyone to get hurt...really...I just forgot the key!" Authorities believe this “like the Day after Tomorrow” is in reference to a film about global warming being released Memorial Day weekend. The police said DiFernando believes that the storms that keep striking his Pack are due to the weather changes that are occurring around the world. He kept repeating that he never wanted to see anyone in harms way. He said he had just happened to forgot to give the church key to one of the 50+ families that attend the Friday den and pack meetings from September to June. Upon further investigation we find this has never occurred in the past when good weather was in the forecast. The agony that met the Pack families this fateful Friday evening was compared to the biblical proportions of Exodus and the Ten Plagues. Because there was no key for the church the families were forced to remain outside. They tried the best they could to hold their meeting outdoors but as the skies began to darken; thunder and lightening began to move towards them. Children whimpered in fear remembering another time not so long ago in their short lives. The families tried their best to provide their scouts with their last pack meeting but at the fear that it truly might be their "last" they fled for their vehicles and to the safety of their homes. E911 were called to report the incident and to let police know that Mr. DiFernando was at it again, putting his Pack families in harms way. We have researched his parole records and find that it may be the slammer this time for the beloved Pack leader since this violates his parole. Just a few of the gut wrenching incidents that met the families this evening: Vast swarms
of gnats tormented people and animals. Powerful
storms that destroyed the standing crops (and threatened the families'
lives). Darkness
over the entire land (it was one wicked storm!). Yes, it was only five of the ten plaques but authorities say that's enough to put the Pack Leader away for a long time. Long enough for these families to get on with their lives and not have to face anymore life threatening incidents at his hands. Families of the victims again insist the man is crazed and should never have been released from the state hospital in the first place. His family and friends hope that there is no ill feeling for what their loved one has again done and they believe the stress from his one hour a week commitment to the Pack and his inordinate fear of global warming has sent him over the edge again. |
