| Day
Camp: The day camp that previously has been scheduled for the Izaak Walton League Park is now scheduled to take place at the Tidewater Community College, Chesapeake Campus. Thanks to all that came to the aide of our Day Camp as the Izaak Walton League is improving their campground and construction caused us to seek a new location for this summer’s program. Additional information can be attained through Lisa Bonnet or David Alger. Be sure to visit the Day Camp site on the council web page. Blue and Gold: Pack 320's Blue and Gold dinner was a huge success. More than 120 Scouts and their families were in attendance including 12 Boy Scouts and leaders from Troops 320 and 901. Held at the Triple R Ranch and under the able planning of our past Committee Chairperson, Erika Owens, those present had the opportunity to decorate a great "camp bucket" (also filled with goodies provided by Patricia Shands), eat some terrific fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and brownies until they were ready to "pop" and spend a great afternoon with friends and family. A 2004-2005 photographic history of Pack 320 was also presented. With our Cub Master, Bobby D, as master of ceremonies, we recognized our adult volunteers and presented them with a token of appreciation from the Pack. The highlight of the afternoon saw all of our WEBELO II scouts cross over to Boy Scouts in a very impressive ceremony conducted by both Troop 320 and 901. It was truly a memorable afternoon. Congratulations to all our new Boy Scouts!! Family Campout: Last weekend's family campout was a great time for all who participated. In addition to all of the Tigers, Bears, Wolves, and Webelo I scouts, we were also joined by two of our past Webelo II scouts. Hunter Wallen and Ryan Walker, who crossed over to Boy Scouts at our recent Blue and Gold event just couldn't get enough of Pack 320 and came back one more time to camp with us. And of course, Mr. Boinay, one of our recent Webelo II Den Leaders, was also present. He told all who would listen that although he used to be the Webelo II Den Leader he was there just as a parent supporting Nicholas but we all know he just wanted to camp with the Pack one more time too. You guys are always welcome! Treasurer: A note to Parents from the Pack Treasurer - Many of you may remember the presentation I held at the beginning of the year where I outlined our Pack budget of nearly $10,000.00. This budget was developed and approved by your Pack Committee during August 2004. And of course now that we are well into the year many of you might be wondering where your Pack dues go. Well, funny you should ask. I was just going over our finances and thought it would be a great time to let you know what some of our recent activities have cost especially since many of you have attended some of these events over the last few weeks. The Blue and Gold dinner held two weeks ago at the Triple R Ranch and attended by over 120 family, friends and Scouts cost the Pack $830.00. Our camping trip last week, including food, campsite fees, and craft supplies cost $806.00. The Harlem Globetrotters event cost $400.50. The Admirals Hockey event cost $459.00, Our Pinewood Derby event cost $310.00. Our Christmas party cost $118.50. We also pay a national recharter fee each year based on the number of Scouts on our Pack 320 roll. This year that fee was $838.25. Additionally, Pack 320 has spent more than $1,200.00 on Scout achievement awards, belt loops, pins, and event patches. While these expenses are only the high points , this gives you a little idea of what your dues support. We are a very active Pack and it takes a significant budget to run Pack 320 in the manner in which we have all become accustomed. We get our income primarily from two sources; dues and popcorn sales. The goal of the Pack Committee is to never have to come back to you as parents and ask for more money to support Pack 320 activities. To keep our dues low and meet the above goal we absolutely need everyone's efforts to maximize our popcorn sales when the time comes in the fall. Please do you part - remember, it's all for the kids! Never hesitate to let me know if you have a question. Corner: Our two Dens of WEBELOS II’s received their Arrow of Light awards at an extremely impressive ceremony hosted by Patricia Shands in March. By the light of a huge bonfire, each of the WEBELOS II Scouts were presented a plaque-mounted arrow wound with colored string signifying each of their previous milestones in Cub Scouting as well as gold and silver arrow achievement awards. More than 120 other scouts and family members witnessed this ceremony. Mark Easton, of Troop 320, played a key role in the ceremony as well as Shawn O'Keefe and Bobby DiFernando. WEBELOS II Den Leaders, Paul Boinay and Sherry and John Morrison proudly stood by as their Scouts met this significant achievement. As our WEBELOS II Scouts move on to join the various Troops we bid them a sad farewell. Many have been with Pack 320 since they were Tiger Cubs and we will miss their great personalities and the excitement they brought to the Pack. But we also are excited for them as they transition to Boy Scouts. Good Luck to you all! You are always welcome to come back and visit with us. Craig Upcoming Events |

Corner: "Thank you to all who made it to the Holiday party. The snacks provided were delicious and we hope the kids had a great time with Karaoke room, movie room, craft room and Bingo. Thanks to Ms. Yvette for providing the Charlie Brown movie. Each scout should have left with a scout ornament (wooden fleurs de les) and a white goody bag, so if your scout was not there or did not get these items, be sure to see your den leader. Both quantities are limited. Thank you everyone." Thanks, Kim |

Interest: Popcorn: We have $10,000 in sales so far! We had 34 boys participate in Popcorn Sales! Imagine what our sales would be, if we had the other 25 boys who didn't sell participate! There is no limit to what we could have accomplished! I am very proud of all the boys who sold and also helped with the Show-n-Sells. Everyone wore their complete uniform and did a wonderful job. Our Top three sellers are all Webelo II's. A.J. Glass was our top seller with sales of $1,465. Austin Schnarrs had sales of $758 and Jory Morrison had sales of $593. We also had two brand new Tigers participate in Show-n-Sells, Harrison Moore and Steven Blake. Please congratulate all of these boys and your Scout for their hard work and dedication.

Treasurer:
A note from the Treasurer - Our Pack budget this year is nearly $11,000.00. WOW! When I first joined our budget was a mere $6,000.00. This certainly is an indicator of our growth, creativity, and a great mix of opportunities for our Scouts. But...with this budget there certainly is a need for commitment. Our Pack dues generate less than 30% of the budget. The rest comes from our chief fundraiser - Yep, you guessed it - popcorn. As many of you might remember from my presentation at the first Pack meeting, the Pack Committee's goal during our budget planning meetings during the summer is to never have to come back to the parents with requests for more money - and for the last four years we have been able to meet this goal. This success has been due to active participation from each Scout during our popcorn sale period. We are doing good this year but still have a ways to go. Thanks to you all for your efforts - keep it up. Also, to date, just over 25% of our Scouts have paid the Pack dues. Please see me on Fridays or provide your dues to your Den leader. Dues are $65 per Scout plus $10.80 for the Boys' Life subscription if desired. Please see me, the CubMaster or Committee Chair (Shawn O'Keefe) if you have special needs. Craig Wallen, Pack Treasurer. for Food Drive: PACK 320 Cub scouts helped thousands of hungry people in our community! Our Scouts participated in the annual "Scouting for Food" drive this fall. The 2004 food drive took place on two consecutive Saturdays. On Saturday September 11 Scouts placed plastic bags at doorsteps. The following Saturday, September 18, 2004, the Scouts returned to pick up the filled bags. Food donated will be distributed through the FoodBank. Foods collected were canned vegetables, canned meats, soups, and stews. Staples such as rice, beans, and corn meal too. Thanks to everyone that participated! Scouting for Food returns in spring 2005. FYI: Scouting for Food total for Pack 320 equaled 103 bags!
For every boy who sells $1000 or more, Council is giving them an extra prize of either a Basketball or a Baseball Bat. This is an extra incentive that is only limited to a number of Basketballs so when supplies run out they will switch to Baseball Bats only. Remember to turn in your order forms when you want to deliver your popcorn and collect money. You can still continue to sell by using a new order form. We need to reach our goal and to do that we need everyone’s help! Please call if you have any questions! Sherry Morrison 545-1764 |
