for the University of Scouting
is going on now - first-come first-served. All den leaders are required
to be trained. Training is also available for Pack Committee Members.
If you are a parent and would like to become a registered leader or member

The
first week of February is often referred to as Scouting Anniversary Week
and the first Sunday in February is called Scout Sunday. This commemorates
the founding of the Boy Scouts of America via a National Charter from
Congress on February 8, 1910. Sunday is celebrated by thousands of scouts
each year at Churches and Synagogues across the United States.
On
February 8, 1910, Chicago publisher William Dickson Boyce and a group
of outstanding leaders filed incorporation papers for the Boy Scouts
of America in the District of Columbia. The purpose, he said, "Shall
be to promote, through organization, and cooperation with other agencies,
the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train
them in Scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance,
and kindred virtues, using the methods which are in common use by
Boy Scouts."
Today
Scouting has served millions of young men aged 6-18 in a variety
of programs including Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing.
Earning Scouting´s highest award--the Eagle Scout award--is
only acheived by 4% of boys registered.

Our District Banquet is being
held at Great Bridge Baptist Church on Battlefield Blvd. in Chesapeake
across from the YMCA. The cost is $10.00 and reservations MUST be made

The District is proving all the food and beverages for this event.

from training junior leaders to planning a high adventure trek, and more. |

Mission
The University of Scouting is part of the Tidewater
Council's supplemental training plan. This supplemental training
event is designed to give leaders additional information on specific
areas of Scouting. Some of the topics and procedures touched on in
basic training are discussed in greater detail during the University
of Scouting sessions.
Overview
The University will consist of six hours of instruction and lunch. Lunch
will be provided by the Order of the Arrow cook crew. Participants are
requested to bring a writing instrument and paper to take down any notes.
Participants are requested to wear their Scout uniform. It is recommended
that members of the same unit attend different sessions to enhance the
experience and to bring as much knowledge as possible back to their unit.
During the lunch period there is a Student Union with displays, exhibits,
demonstrations, and a trading post.
Registration
Sign-up for the University classes are
by pre-registration only, there will be no on-site registration.
The cost of attendance is $20 per person and will include patch
and lunch. There will be no registration the day of the University
without the permission of the University President. All registrants
after February 11, will be assessed a penalty fee of $10. Sessions
will be filled on a first-come first-served basis and some sessions
have a limited capacity; therefore you will not want to delay in
registering. |
