08/08/03 @ 7:00 pm at Northwest River Park - Indian Creek Road
Be there at 6:45 pm, wear your class B Uniform

A good size group of scouts and parents had a fun time at the Northwest River Park. We had a great talk and question & answer on snakes, spiders and poision ivy from the staff at the Park (Dr. Dean, Jessica and Ranger Lauren were GREAT!). Do you know what features let you tell a poisionous snake from a nonpoisionous snake?

Then we headed out on a walk to the Northwest River to see nature at night. Crawfish, toads and spiders but NO snakes!!! We learned how to do the calls of the different owls that live in our forest and even listened to the frogs and toads calling to one another. When the clouds broke up we also got to look and hear stories about the star constellations. And WE all know about a secret with wintergreen lifesavers (and you don't!!!).

AND GUESS WHAT! It didn't rain until we were leaving so pooh to all the folks who stayed home because they thought they'd get wet!

We're going on a Night Hike!!! Join us in walking Northwest River Park's trails at night. Each night is full of its own surprises. Maybe we'll stumble upon a salamander or snake, hear an owl or frog calling, see the Milky Way in the starry sky or spy a shooting star. Whatever we encounter, it is sure
to be a fun evening. Our night hike is on Friday 8/8 from 7:30-9:30 pm

See North West River Park Web Site for directions

*Virginia Air & Space Center Visit

07/26/03 @ 1:00 PM at Virginia Air & Space Center, Hampton, VA

What!!! You missed this event too!! Too bad because we had a great time! A VERY informative talk by our guide and then free time to go through all of the displays. Some of the scouts tried out the flight simulator to see what it was like to take off and land on an aircraft carrier (and be shot at on the way back). Others tried hands-on exhibits, airplane flight simulators, found out how satellites worked or saw the IMAX movie Bugs....all the scouts made sure to get their Flight 2003 books stamped as another activity for their patches was completed! Some of the scouts even picked up model airplanes or rockets at the museum store so they could build and fly them to complete another Fight 2003 activity at home!

If you've never been there, you don't want to miss this opportunity. If you have been there before, we're sure you know it's worth a return visit.  Remember this trip goes towards your Flight 2003 activities and badges. Please be sure to bring your Passport Book to have it stamped by the Center. If you don't have a book let us know.

Group rate tickets are $4 per person. We are meeting at the museum promptly at 1:00 pm Saturday.

Rocket Check-In at 10:00 AM, Derby Race Until 3:00 PM

The Space Derby is similar to the Pinewood Derby except that the models are miniature 'rockets' -- propeller-driven and powered by two or three rubber bands -- that travel along a heavy monofilament fishing line. The rockets are carved by the boys, with the guidance of their parents or other family members. Space Derby kits with building instructions are available at the Scout Shop.

Come join the fun as the rockets fly for this annual pack event. The Space Derby gives Scouts a great opportunity to show off their creativity, design, building and decorating skills to complete this project and compete in this race of rubber band-powered propeller model rockets.

Pack 320 graduates Tigers to Wolf and Bear to WEBELOS in a ceremony held during our family picnic in early summer. We generally will give the boys who have been in the Pack all year their hats, neckerchiefs, and slides as recognition of their completion of one tier in the Cub Scout program. The Pack generally provides the grillables and asks families to provide sides, condiments and drinks. Our committee usually prepares some fun games and activities for the children which also earns the cubs another belt loop.
