Regatta Building: |
|||||||||
![]() |
1. The Cub Scout must make his own boat(s), however parental help is welcome.
| 2. All boats must be constructed only from the materials provided in the Raingutter Regatta kit, with no substitutions (ie, you can't trade the plastic sail for one made of cloth) or additions other than decorations | |||||||||
| 3. You can add decorations such as tiny cannons, rigging, or other decorative materials, if desired. | |||||||||
| 4. You do not have to use all of the materials provided in the kit | |||||||||
5. The materials in the kit can be cut, trimmed, shaped, sanded, sawed and/or otherwise modified so long as the final boat does not exceed the following dimensions: |
|||||||||
| Maximum length: 8 inches | |||||||||
| Maximum width: 3.5 inches (including sail) | |||||||||
| Pre-Sail Registration and Inspections: | |||||||||
![]() |
1. Boats are to be submitted to the registration table between 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Contestants must check in their boats no later than the posted check-in time. Late arrivals may be unable to race or be judged according to the design categories.
| 2.
Reagatta staff will inspect, register and assign a sticker with a sailboat
number to each of the boats. |
|||||||||
| 3. After registration, boats will be held in the designated "Dry Dock" until race time. Scouts are not allowed to touch/play with boats (their own or others) after they have been registered. They will be able to only touch their own boats during the race. | |||||||||
| 4.
If at registration, a boat does not pass inspection, the owner will be informed
of the reason for failure, and will be given time within the official registration
period to make the adjustment. |
|||||||||
| 4.
No one may enter the "Dry Dock" area unless authorized by the
regatta staff. |
|||||||||

1.
All sailboats are air-powered only. Each scout will use a straw provided
by the pack at the race to blow his sailboat down the track. No (hands or
straws) may touch the boat during the race (called "pushing"),
except to right a sunken or tipped boat, and nothing but the boat can touch
the water. |
||||||||
| 2.
In the case of a boat being pushed (by straw or hand) judges have the right
to rerun questionable races. |
|||||||||
| 3.
If during the rerun a boat is pushed a second time, it will be disqualified,
and the other boat will be declared a winner. |
|||||||||
| 4. If the sailboat tips over, the scout may right the boat and place it in exactly the same spot it tipped over, not ahead. If this rule is not followed, out of fairness to the rest of the boats, the boat will be disqualified. (Cheating never pays!) | |||||||||
| 5. All rulings by the judges are FINAL...unruley guests will be put in the stockades! Judges will have the final say, remember this is not life and death, have fun and do your best! | |||||||||
| 4. The first boat to the opposite end of the raingutter is the winner in each race. Races will continue by double elimination until a final winner is declared. | |||||||||
| 5.
Trophies will
be awarded to the top four finishers of the regatta. |
|||||||||
| 6. Boats will also be judges and trophies awarded for four special design categories shown below: | |||||||||
| 1. Crowd Favorite | |||||||||
| 2. Best Scout Theme | |||||||||
| 3. Most Realistic | |||||||||
| 4. Best Paint Job | |||||||||
| 6. The First Place trophy winner and winner of the Crowd favorite trophy will not be eligible fro additional trophies. The remaining scouts will be limited to a maximum of 2 trophies (a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place trophy and/or 1 special category trophy). | |||||||||
| 7. Medals will also be awarded to the top 3 finalists. | |||||||||
