| For those of you who didn't know it, NASA Langley in Hampton is a major research center for aviation operating since 1917 and was the birthplace of the nation's space program in the 1960s. The VASC is a first rate Museum containing a large variety of artifacts and interactive exhibits representing decades of research and exploration of interest to both young and old. Highlights include over a dozen historic aircraft, a replica of the Wright Brothers' 1903 Flyer, the actual Apollo 12 command module, and a Space Shuttle landing simulator. | ||||||||||
| Come face-to-face with the world of NASA's secret eyes with the new traveling exhibit Eyes on Earth. Gaze into the heavens at the Mission Kiosk designed to illuminate the night sky or look down upon the Earth from an altitude of 22,000 miles. Learn how NASA and other scientific institutions use satellites to study the Earth and see how satellites are able to orbit our phosphorescent planet. Design a satellite and discover the inner-workings of satellite technology including how lenses and aperture create a perfect image. | ||||||||||

DIRECTIONS: Its best to check traffic conditions at the Hampton Rds Bridge Tunnel. LEAVE EARLY SO TRAFFIC DOESN'T MAKE YOU LATE!!!! • If you are sure traffic is light, follow I-64 West through the HRBT to Hampton. Take exit 267 to Settlers Landing Road. Take a left and proceed over the bridge; the Center will be on your left just past the Radisson Hotel; the parking facility will be one block further on your right. |
||||||||||
| • Alternately, follow I-64 East ("Outer Loop") towards Suffolk to the end. Stay to the left and follow I-664 North through the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to Hampton. Where I-664 ends, exit right into I-64 East (again). Take exit 267 at Settlers Landing Road. Take a right and proceed over the bridge; the Center will be on your left just past the Radisson Hotel; the parking facility will be one block further on your right. This is about 10 miles further, but could save you half an hour or more of waiting at the HRBT. | ||||||||||
