To earn the Webelo rank a Cub Scout must complete 8 activities that are offered in the new 2003 book. Our new scouts are working on their webelos badge and Arrow of Light requirements while our scouts from last year are working towards their Arrow of Light .

Note that these activities are primarily done at home but are no longer signed off by the parent but instead are signed off and tracked by the Den Leader after the scout presents proof of completion of tasks.

FOR NEW SCOUTS WITH DERBY CARS:

Just received this from the Elizabeth River District:

POSTPONEMENT OF THE
PINEWOOD DERBY EVENT FOR NEWCOMERS!

We are postponing this event due to various reasons at this time BUT we do plan on holding a special NEW COMER Pinewood Derby event at the Elizabeth River District Pinewood Derby in February. Location to be determined!!

We have still not heard back from Council concerning a seperate Derby Race for New Scouts. Once we hear something it will be posted. For now they won't need to work on their derby cars. I would recommend checking out this info below. If they do not hold a race we will be holding our Annual Pack 320 Pinewood Derby Race in March. The current schedule is as follows and will change only if council changes their date:

Pack 320 Pinewood Derby Workshop - Feb 18th
Pack 320 Pinewood Derby Trials - Mar 3rd
Pack 320 Pinewood Derby Race - Mar 4th
Elizabeth River District Derby Race - Mar 11th

Our Pack workshop is held either at the church or at someone's workshop where all the tools required for the scouts to create their derby car will be available for use.

        Jan 2006

The Web II’s didn’t let the Christmas break stop them! Last week, they attended the lock-in at the church w/ the Troop. It’s a wonder why we sent the boys off w/ toothbrushes and p.j.’s, since their overnight bags were barely even touched! The boys came home exclaiming how they were up the ENTIRE night, and much to the shagrin of the adults, so were they!

Of course, before the lock-in, the boys did attend their Den meeting, and turned in their “Traveling Activity” homework. Part of their assignment was to route out the trip to Pipsico, where the majority of them are tonight, to attend the “Freeze-O-Ree.” Typically, at this time of the year, we’re sure they would’ve been in danger of turning into popsicles, but it looks like Mother Nature will spare them that ordeal; however, it looks like they might be coming home wet and soggy! Well, that won’t stop them from fulfilling their plans to help clean up around the area. Here’s hoping for a fun-filled weekend for the Web II’s with the Boy Scouts.

We’d also like to wish a “ Big Happy Birthday” to almost half of our Den!

See all those belt loops and pins above (Ice Skating Beltloop, Science Beltloop, Citizenship Beltloop, Naturalist Activity Pin, Forester Activity Pin, Citizen Activity Pin, Scientist Activity Pin)…that’s what we worked on too, this month! We second the busy time that the Webelos I’s had. Our new scouts attended the Webelos Badge Day on Nov 19 th, and most were able to earn their Citizen and Scientist Activity Badges. We finished up those badges with the Citizenship Belt Loop and Scientist Belt Loop, the latter of which our den earned utilizing the Scientific Method in the great Soap Experiment. Hey guys, so when exactly does soap float?

Most of our den also participated in the Chesapeake Arboretum Service Project, where we had a great time cleaning up and raking. Thanks to Mrs. Armistead, for letting the boys have some fun in the leaves after all that raking! This Project went towards our scouts’ Citizen Belt Loop as their Community Service Project, as well as the Outdoor Activity Award. One of our newer scouts, Tristen, will be earning his Webelos Badge today (a BIG congrats!) and we are planning to have the rest of our new scouts make rank by February by finishing their Activity Badge in January.

Our Den was able to set up two trips to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. We worked on our Naturalist Activity Badge the first week, on Nov 26 th, and our Forester Activity Badge the next, on Dec 3 rd. We spent our den meetings following up any remaining work for those two badges. Our last den event for this month was a trip to the Chilled Ponds Ice Skating Rink, where we were able to earn our Ice Skating Belt Loop AND Pin! We had a great intro class on skating and got the end of the rink all to ourselves to practice before our free time out on the ice. This Belt Loop will go towards the individual sports requirement for our Sportsman Activity Badge. We hope to have that earned in the next couple of months!

We were also able to take part as Webelos in the construction of Pack 320’s float and had a great time at the Christmas Parade! We plan to have a great time at the Pack Christmas Party, but then will be resting for the next couple of weeks, before another busy month begins!

We hope all our Pack 320 families have a wonderful Holiday Season, no matter how you will be spending it. Just remember that your family of scouts wishes you all the best for the New Year!

        Nov 2005
Another very busy month for the Webelos II’s! We have worked on our Communicator Activity Badge, and will be receiving it at tonight’s Pack Meeting. At one of our Den meetings, we set up stations where we could complete activities for the badge. Some of us also worked on our Computer and Communicating Belt Loops. As part of earning our badge, we went to visit the WAVY 10 TV Station,
and our friends from the Webelos I’s Den joined us. We were able to tour the station, see the newsroom, video and sound rooms, and even got to try out doing the weather in front of the green screen. It sure takes a lot to collect the news for TV! Our most fun was visiting the pilot and cameraman of the WAVY 10 Chopper. Boy, did we ask questions! Afterwards, we all went to Cici’s Pizza for a great lunch.
Thanks so much to Mr. Sean for a great trip and fun time! Some of us (our new scouts) will be going this Saturday to Troop 901’s Webelos Badge Day, so we get some of our Webelos Rank requirements completed. Maybe we’ll even rush over to help at the Arboretum after it ends! We are all looking forward to November 26, when we’ll get to earn our Naturalist Activity Badge at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving, and we will see you all in December! The Webelos II’s are putting out a dare for all the other Dens to beat us in attendance at the Arboretum this Saturday 1-4 pm (Don’t forget our Community Service projects earn our Pack and each scout attending recognition through the Good Turn for
America Program)!

Can you say busy?!  You didn’t see the Webelos II’s at our regular meeting place for a couple of weeks…We went to the YMCA to earn our Aquanaut Badge as a group.  We are very pleased to be the first Webelos in Pack 320 to earn this badge as a group.  Because we did, we were able to go out boating as a group during our Fall Family Campout.  Speaking of campout, what fun that was!  I’m afraid many people will remember our leader as an animated “Hair Dresser” for a long time!  Even though our assistant leader, Patricia, had an unfortunate accident, she managed to make it to the last day of the campout.  You just can’t keep her away, but we don’t want to anyway.  We wish her a speedy recovery, and a new car.  A few of us stayed behind and went canoeing.  Ouch!  Our muscles will be aching for days…

We want to welcome our new friends, Kenneth “KC” Christenson, Jake Balcom, Nick Bunker, and their families.  Aren’t you glad you joined us?

        Sept 2005

This has been a VERY busy summer and September for Den 6! We started the summer with our friends in the Webelos I’s den at the Camp Pendleton Webelos-Only Day Camp. We were part of the Pack 320 Owl Patrol and had a great time working on activity badges and belt loops. We practiced archery and bb-guns everyday! Most of the awards going to the Webelos I’s and II’s at tonight’s Pack meeting were earned at scout day camp. We had lots of parents who helped out as both leaders and assistants and we are so very glad they got to spend the week with us. Thanks so much to Tom Nimitz for being our Owl Patrol leader! Some of us hope that next year’s Webelos II’s will go back to that camp so we can volunteer as junior staff as boy scouts!

We have a big welcome to our new den leader, Sean Phillips, and assistant den leader, Patricia Shands. We started off this year working on knots and Boy Scout facts that we have to know to make Arrow of Light. Next week, we start working on our Aquanaut Activity Badge, and we will be going to the YMCA. We will meet a YMCA lifeguard, who will talk about safe swimming, and a person from the Coast Guard to talk about boating safety. At our family campout in October, we will get to practice boating safety and go on a canoe trip with our den at Northwest River Park .

Happy Birthday to scouts in our den who had birthdays between July and September: Troy Gamboa – August 29 th (A Belated Happy Birthday!)

We also want to welcome our new scout, Thaddeus Thorne, to our den!
