February 2005

What a busy month! We have been preparing for our Arrow of Light Board. We also had a campout at the home of John and Sherry Morrison. Fourteen boys braved the cold and slept out in tents. The boys all took part in preparing the meal of tacos, which was delicious! We also started working on our Scientist Badge at our camp out. John Bleckler showed different ways how Inertia works and Jory Morrison explained Bernoulli's principle and how Crystals are formed. It was a very clear night for star gazing for those who took the opportunity to look through one of the telescopes.

        January 2005

This month our Den has been working hard on earning out last badges to complete our Arrow of Light requirements. We completed our Craftsman Badge by making paper mache piñata’s at Ms. Sherry and Mr. John's house, completing our Artist badge in between applying layers of newspaper to our piñatas. In the same afternoon Ms. Yvette and Mr. Pat ( John Bleckler's mom and dad ) gave the boys a "mock" Arrow of Light Review Board so that they would leave knowing what they still needed to work on. Not only did they interview each boy but also they worked out a system where the leaders received a copy and the boys were able to give a copy to their parents. What a wonderful idea and a tremendous help to the leaders! Thank you Ms. Yvette and Mr. Pat!!!

Helping Others in the Community
In the Electronic Knapsack Vol 7, Issue 25, December 31, 2004 it told about a special needs Scout in Virginia Beach that had lost everything in a house fire. I read the article to my Web II Den 5 and asked them what they thought we could do to help this special needs Scout. To this date two of my boys have responded. Ben O'Malley suggested that we put the family in for an Extreme Makeover ( an idea I wish I had come up with myself ). John Bleckler went one step further and sold off some of his toys he no longer uses and put the money in the Scouts trust account set up after the fire. These two boys thought of ways to help others in our local community. I wanted to share this with everyone as they set a fine example for the younger Scouts. We should be proud of these boys as they represent all of us as a Pack

        December 2004
What a busy month it has been. We have been working on finishing up our Engineer Badge and with it also working towards our Arrow of Light Award. What a busy few months we have ahead of us. We have learned our Scout Oath and Scout Law. Ask us and we will recite them for you! We met at the home of John and Sherry Morrison this month for one of our meetings and we looked at blueprints of Starbucks Restaurants. In addition to learning the basics of where to find doors and windows on the blueprints: Mr. John had us locating electrical and plumbing as well. We also learned about the basic types of bridges. It was a fun night with both Web II Dens there and we hope everyone learned a lot from it as well.

        November 2004
We had a great time at the Family Camp Out. Several boys earned their Whittling Chips. We also had a fun time at Mr. John and Ms. Sherry's Halloween Party. Both Web II Dens came. We played a game of put the wart on the Warlock's nose (the Warlock was a picture of our own Cubmaster, Bobby D.). We also broke open a ghost piñata and ate all kinds of goodies. At our last meeting we worked some more on our Engineer Badge by making bridges out of straws. We put our bridges going from one table to another. They had to support the weight of a green bean can and we had to be able to roll a ball across them without the ball falling off the sides.

        October 2004
Our Den has had a great month. We have some new faces. Please welcome Nathan Lenderman, Ben O'Malley, Kyle Reznak, and Earl Cross II. We have a great group of boys and have been working hard on learning our Boy Scout Oath and the Boy Scout Law as we transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. This month one of our events was to take turns strapping the boys feet onto boards and learning to work together and walk together on the boards. The boys all seemed to enjoy it and took turns with different groups of boys for a whole new walking experience each time! We also had a great time at the Rocket Workshop and look forward to the race as it will be the first time for many of us!

        September 2004
We are hard at work now that school has started and we are working towards our Arrow of Light Award. We know that this year’s Arrow of Light Ceremony will be the best one yet! Last week Mr. John showed us how to make a series circuit. We each made our own using a light bulb and a battery. We are all working on memorizing the Scout Oath and getting excited as the time when we will become Boy Scouts quickly approaches. It is very important that every Webelo Parent and Scout attend a Troop meeting on Tuesday the 28th at the church. The troop is in the process of making some changes with the incoming Webelos in mind. They need our support so please plan on attending. The meeting starts at 7:00.
